Flat-pack furniture, curtain poles and room repairs.

The easiest assembly plan starts with the finished layout. Check where doors and drawers will open, what needs fixing to the wall and which wall repairs or paint stages must happen first. Delivery, carrying, assembly and disposal are separate tasks to agree, even when they concern the same item.

Beds, wardrobes and storage

For flat-pack assembly in Morden, send the manufacturer, model and full package list. For an IKEA wardrobe, include its frame, doors and interior fittings rather than only the range name. Include the room dimensions and ceiling height where relevant; finished height alone does not establish the clearance needed to build and position it.

Wall securing and new shelves

Tell me about manufacturer-required furniture anchoring and permission to drill. For shelves and mirrors, supply the weight, rear fittings and intended position. We need to consider the wall, product and load together before selecting fixings.

Curtains before the room is occupied

Share the pole instructions, curtain heading and drop through the curtain-pole service. Show the window, opening handles and any radiator or furniture below. A clear wall is useful for working, but the final curtain position still needs confirming before drilling.

Small repairs around the move

List loose ordinary internal-door handles, catching cupboard fronts and redundant fixing holes through home repairs. Include any painting before furniture is positioned, allowing for the chosen product's drying and curing instructions.

A move-in list in a practical order.

Use this as a planning example, not a promised one-day schedule:

  • Repair old shelf holes and agree whether a wall needs repainting.
  • Fit the confirmed curtain pole while the window area is accessible.
  • Assemble the delivered wardrobe and bed, including required wall securing.

Add the delivery status, exact models and date by which the room must be usable. If drying time or an incomplete delivery separates the stages, we will discuss appointments and price before booking.

Morden parking and access to the actual flat or house.

Merton lists four Morden parking zones, including permit-only arrangements and different operating days. Check the council map for your street and the current bay signs; being near Morden station does not identify the applicable zone.

If the job is in a flat, send the block name and entrance as well as the postal address. Include lift booking rules, permitted working hours and the route from unloading to the room. Lower Morden and Merton Park are also within the wider Merton coverage; include the precise street so its own access arrangements can be checked.

Planning your Morden job.

Useful answers before we agree the work and appointment.

What are your handyman rates?

Labour is £50 for the first hour, then £25 per additional 30 minutes, including VAT. The minimum labour charge is £50 including VAT, even if the work takes less than an hour. Materials are charged at their net cost (excluding VAT) plus 10%, then 20% VAT. There is no separate travel or parking charge. Send your job list and postcode so we can discuss the work, materials and total before booking. See how the rates and quote work.

Can you assemble IKEA wardrobes and beds in Morden?

I can help with flat-pack furniture assembly. Send the exact product, instructions and all components, including wardrobe interiors or bed mechanisms supplied separately. Confirm package availability, room clearance and required wall securing. The complete model determines what is involved; a retailer or range name alone is not enough for an accurate estimate.

How long will furniture assembly take?

The model, number of components, doors and drawers, access and required anchoring affect the time. Partly assembled or damaged items can also need checking before work continues. Send the complete list for an estimate; the pricing guide explains how agreed labour time is charged. A standard time per box would be misleading.

Can the wardrobe go up before decorating is finished?

Tell me which surfaces remain to be painted and how the wardrobe will be secured. Assembly can obstruct preparation and painting, while moving a newly built unit can create additional work. Agree the order and paint readiness before the appointment.

What if one furniture box is missing?

Check the manufacturer's package list and tell me what has arrived. Missing panels or hardware can prevent safe completion, even if most boxes are present. Discuss any delivery change before the visit instead of assuming the available parts can be assembled first.

Will you remove the old furniture and packaging?

Dismantling, carrying, transport and disposal need explicit agreement. Describe the old item, where it is and what you want removed. A quotation for assembling the replacement does not automatically include those additional tasks.

Can you fit a curtain pole while assembling bedroom furniture?

Yes, include both in the enquiry. Send the pole kit, curtain measurements and window photographs as well as the furniture model. Keeping the window area clear may make fitting practical before the furniture is positioned. We will agree the order and expected time, including any repair to old bracket holes.
