Finish the room in the right order.

A new pole, a fresh coat of paint and a bookcase can belong to the same project, but the order matters. Include removal, repairs and finishing in the enquiry as well as the new items. We can then identify what needs to happen before a delivery, what needs drying time and what is ready to fit.

Repairs before decorating

Show old fixing holes, loose fittings and any damaged surface before choosing the paint finish. A recurring crack or damp patch needs its cause assessed; filling and painting alone may not resolve it. The home repairs service explains how to describe the fault.

Walls and interior woodwork

For painting and decorating, list the actual surfaces, approximate sizes and paint product. Mention furniture that needs moving and when the room must be usable. Agree preparation, protection and drying stages alongside the finish.

Curtain poles, bays and wall fittings

Merton's Wimbledon Hill Road assessment records angled, square and rounded bays. If your window has a bay, show the whole opening, ceiling and side returns before ordering a pole. A pole across the front and a system following the bay need different product and bracket checks; specialist tracks need their own assessment.

For curtain-pole fitting, send the curtain details and instructions. For shelves and mirrors, add dimensions, weight and position. Tell me whether decorating comes before the new fittings.

Wardrobes, beds and storage assembly

For flat-pack furniture assembly, send the model, quantities and full configuration, including separately selected doors, drawers and interior fittings. Include the instructions, package status and final position. We will check working space, handling and any required wall securing before agreeing the job.

A room-refresh enquiry you can adapt.

This is a planning example, not a completed customer project:

  • Remove one bedroom curtain pole and make good the redundant holes.
  • Prepare and repaint the window wall; I can send the paint details and room photos.
  • Fit the replacement pole after the finish is ready, then assemble a bookcase with its required wall securing.

Add the product links, approximate surface sizes, delivery status and priorities. Tell me which furniture can stay in the room and what protection or moving needs to be included in the quote.

Wimbledon access: the street and visit date matter.

Check the ordinary street-parking arrangements and, during the Wimbledon Championships, any event controls affecting the address. Merton distinguishes permission to reach an affected road from permission to park there. Use the council information for the relevant year and current street signs, then include the entrance and any access restriction with your job list.

Planning your Wimbledon job.

Useful answers before we agree the work and appointment.

What are your handyman rates?

Labour is £50 for the first hour, then £25 per additional 30 minutes, including VAT. The minimum labour charge is £50 including VAT, even if the work takes less than an hour. Materials are charged at their net cost (excluding VAT) plus 10%, then 20% VAT. There is no separate travel or parking charge. Send your job list and postcode so we can discuss the work, materials and total before booking. See how the rates and quote work.

Do you cover Wimbledon as well as the rest of Merton?

Yes. Wimbledon is within my existing Merton service area. Send the complete address and postcode so I can confirm the location, work and availability. For Morden, Mitcham, Raynes Park and other places in the borough, see Merton coverage.

Can I combine decorating with furniture assembly?

Yes, both can be planned in one enquiry. Removal and wall repairs may come before painting, with assembly after the finish is ready. Send the paint product, room layout and delivery status so we can agree the sequence. Drying stages or missing packages may require separate appointments.

Can you assemble IKEA wardrobes and beds in Wimbledon?

I can help with flat-pack assembly, including suitable IKEA items. Send the article numbers or product links, complete configuration and instructions. The exact model determines the working space, handling and wall-securing requirements. Any need for another person must be agreed before booking. Colin Home Service is independent of IKEA.

Can you quote for a small painting job in Wimbledon?

Yes. A single wall, room refresh or interior woodwork can be discussed through the decorating service. Send surface sizes, condition and the chosen paint if known. Include filling, preparation and protection; painting over unresolved damp or loose material is not a suitable repair.

Can you fit a curtain pole I have already bought?

Yes, if the kit suits the window, curtain load and available support. Send its instructions, all bracket details, curtain heading and intended drop, plus a wider window photo. Supplied screws and plugs are not suitable for every wall. Include removing old fittings and making good their holes if needed.

What should I check before buying a pole for a Wimbledon bay window?

Decide whether the curtains will sit across the front or follow the bay, then send the proposed system and photos showing every turn. The corners, bracket positions, curtain weight and opening windows need to work together. Do not order from the overall width alone. I can discuss the fitting requirements, but a specialist or made-to-measure track needs its supplier's instructions and a separate suitability check.

How long will my Wimbledon handyman job take?

The time depends on the actual products, quantities, condition and work included. A wardrobe frame with doors and drawers is different from an open bookcase; making good and drying can add separate stages. Send the complete list so I can discuss expected time before booking. The pricing guide explains how labour and materials are charged.
