Make the room work around its fittings.

A wardrobe needs space to be built as well as space to stand; a shelf needs suitable support for what it will hold. Decide the furniture positions before fixing items around them. Include opening windows, door swings, radiators and sockets in your room photos.

Flat-pack furniture, desks and wardrobes

For furniture assembly, send the exact product links or article numbers, including separately bought doors, drawers and organisers. A wardrobe frame and a complete storage system involve different work. Include the final position, assembly clearance and required wall securing. If you have started building it, show the completed stages and any damaged parts.

Shelves above furniture

For shelf fitting, explain what it will hold and send the shelf and bracket specifications. The wall, support spacing and intended load need checking together. Discuss the height from the actual desk or cabinet, including space to use it comfortably.

Curtain poles with room to open the window

Richmond's Teddington planning guidance records varied bay and casement windows around Cambridge Road and Manor Road. If your room has a bay, show its corners, opening sections and any existing blinds. The pole and brackets need a suitable fixing position without obstructing those moving parts.

Repairs before the final arrangement

Include loose handles or cupboard adjustments before furniture blocks access. If old shelves are coming down, agree filling and any repainting before the new layout is installed.

An example study-room list.

Adapt these details to the actual products and room:

  • Assemble a desk and bookcase in their final room, including the bookcase's required wall securing.
  • Fit one shelf above the desk; I can send the bracket instructions and intended contents.
  • Remove the previous shelf and discuss filling or repainting the uncovered area.

Share the complete list before prioritising it. Removing, repairing, painting and refitting may require separate stages; a longer job list is not automatically a single visit.

Teddington parking varies within the town.

Richmond lists several Teddington parking zones, with separate arrangements for the High Street, Broad Street and Ferry Road. Check the actual street and appointment time rather than using a nearby road as a guide.

For a flat or a rear entrance, include the correct door, access contact and route from the permitted parking place. A location pin is useful alongside the full address, particularly when the entrance is on a different road.

Planning your Teddington job.

Useful answers before we agree the work and appointment.

What are your handyman rates?

Labour is £50 for the first hour, then £25 per additional 30 minutes, including VAT. The minimum labour charge is £50 including VAT, even if the work takes less than an hour. Materials are charged at their net cost (excluding VAT) plus 10%, then 20% VAT. There is no separate travel or parking charge. Send your job list and postcode so we can discuss the work, materials and total before booking. See how the rates and quote work.

Can you assemble IKEA furniture and wardrobes in Teddington?

Yes, send the IKEA article numbers or other retailer's product links so I can assess the complete build. Include doors, drawers and organisers, the package status and a photo of the final room position. Required wall securing and assembly clearance are part of planning the job. I am an independent service, not an IKEA assembly partner. See the assembly service for what to send.

Can you fit a curtain pole inside a bay window?

Send the complete bay dimensions, photos and proposed system before ordering. A pole across the opening and one following the bay require different layouts. Corners, brackets, curtain movement and opening windows must be compatible; specialist tracks need their own assessment.

Can you fit a curtain pole I bought from another shop?

Yes, fitting a customer-supplied pole can be discussed. Send its full kit and instructions, curtain details and window photos before booking. The product must suit the opening and load; wall-specific fixings may be needed in addition to the box contents. Made-to-measure curtains or specialist tracks are a different service.

Does an old shelf prove the wall can hold its replacement?

No. A new shelf may have different supports and carry a different load. Include the existing holes and any movement or damaged wall material in the photos. We need to assess the new system rather than copy the previous screw positions.

Can you finish flat-pack furniture that I have already started?

Yes, I can assess a partly built item. Send the instructions, current stage and remaining fittings, and mention damaged boards, forced joints or missing parts. Earlier steps may need checking or correcting before assembly continues, so a half-built unit does not necessarily mean half the work.

Can I add smaller repairs to an assembly booking?

Send them with the original list wherever possible. Quantities, compatible parts and access affect what can be planned. We will agree priorities and discuss any addition before treating it as part of the booked work.
