The repair and the finish, agreed together.

Removing an old bracket can leave holes; replacing a fitting may need a new position. Include both the useful result and the visible finish in your request. That makes it easier to compare the work you want with the materials, preparation and time needed to do it.

Curtain fittings beside original windows

Richmond's Twickenham Green appraisal identifies surviving timber sash windows on parts of The Green and First Cross Road. If you have an original window or surround to keep, show it alongside the wall and old brackets. The proposed fitting needs to leave the window usable and avoid assuming historic timber is a suitable fixing point.

Send the new product and curtain details through the curtain-pole service. Include any shutters or secondary glazing already fitted. Bay or specialist track systems need their own product review; repairs to the window itself are a separate specialist question.

Mirrors and shelves

Send the item weight, dimensions, rear fittings and instructions for mirror or shelf installation. For a heavy item, include the carrying route and working height so handling can be assessed before booking. An old fixing position does not prove it can carry the replacement. Include removal and making good if wanted.

Doors, cupboards and furniture

For small repairs, describe what moves, catches or will not stay closed. Photograph the surrounding material as well as the fitting. For a new item, send its instructions through the assembly service so its construction and wall securing can be considered.

Finishing after the work

A filled hole and an invisible paint match are different outcomes. For decorating, say whether you want the repaired area left ready to paint, touched up or the wider surface repainted. Share the existing paint product if known.

Describe the finished result.

An example scope to adapt to your own home:

  • Remove an old mirror and fit its replacement; I have the dimensions, weight and mounting instructions.
  • Make good unused holes, with the finish left ready for painting or a wider repaint quoted separately.
  • Assess a loose curtain bracket in the same room, including the wall damage and existing curtain weight.

Photos help me discuss the visible work, but hidden damage can change the repair. We will agree the planned scope and how any additional work is discussed, rather than treating every loose fitting as the same job.

Check Twickenham event-day arrangements.

Stadium events can bring parking controls and temporary road closures to affected streets. Check the council event information for the actual address and proposed date. Include a usable entrance and route for tools: permission to park does not necessarily mean the approach is accessible at that time. Outside event restrictions, check the ordinary street and building arrangements.

Planning your Twickenham job.

Useful answers before we agree the work and appointment.

What are your handyman rates?

Labour is £50 for the first hour, then £25 per additional 30 minutes, including VAT. The minimum labour charge is £50 including VAT, even if the work takes less than an hour. Materials are charged at their net cost (excluding VAT) plus 10%, then 20% VAT. There is no separate travel or parking charge. Send your job list and postcode so we can discuss the work, materials and total before booking. See how the rates and quote work.

Is Twickenham included in your Richmond coverage?

Yes. Twickenham is part of my existing Richmond upon Thames service area. Send your postcode and the actual work to discuss availability. The Richmond borough page covers the wider area, including Teddington, Whitton and St Margarets.

Can you reuse a curtain pole's existing holes?

Sometimes, but only if the holes and supporting material suit the new bracket, load and fixing system. Matching screw spacing is not enough. Send photos of the old position and any damage, with the replacement pole instructions, so the fitting and repair can be assessed together.

Can new curtains work alongside my existing sash window or secondary glazing?

Send photos with the window and any secondary glazing both open and closed where you can do so safely. Include handles, shutters, the available space above the opening and the proposed curtains. We need to check the curtain and bracket position against the parts that move, and agree which surfaces may be fixed into. Do not remove original fittings or drill a frame to prepare for the visit.

Is repainting included when an old fitting is removed?

Only if it is agreed in the scope. Removal, filling, preparation and repainting are separate tasks. Tell me the finish you want and any existing paint details; a small touched-up area can look different from the older wall around it.

What if there is a stadium event on the proposed date?

Check the council event-day information and tell me about restrictions on your street or approach route. Parking and access may affect the appointment, so we need to discuss them before confirming a time.

Can you hang a heavy mirror in Twickenham?

Mirror fitting can be assessed from the item's stated weight, mounting instructions, intended wall and access. There is no universal safe weight for every wall or bracket. Send those details before booking so I can confirm suitability and handling, including whether another person is needed. Do not lift it alone for a photograph.

Can I book one small repair or combine several jobs in Twickenham?

Yes, you can enquire about one task or a list of small jobs. Include quantities, photos and priorities so we can agree the work and appointment. Different parts or drying stages may mean separate visits. The published rates apply; combining tasks is not a fixed-price package or a promise that everything fits one hour.
